Altamira

We find the Altamira Caves very close to Santillana del Mar, one of the most important archaeological sites in Spain. Known as the “Palaeolithic Sistine Chapel,” there is an exact reproduction which not only recreates the shape of the caves and paintings, but also the sounds and humidity.

The paintings are dated from 12,000 B.C.but were not discovered until 1879 by Marcelino Sáez de Sautuola. The discovery was an authentic revolution, as it was the first extensive prehistoric pictorial collection known to date.
